Department of Transportation and Safety

On Oct. 1, 2007, the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma entered into an Indian Reservation Roads Agreement with the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). Under the new agreement, Pawnee Nation is authorized to perform the planning, research, design, engineering, construction and maintenance of highways, roads, bridges, parkways, transit facilities programs and projects located on or which provide access to the Pawnee Nation Reserve.

The Pawnee Nation now receives its portion of the Indian Reservation Roads funds directly from DOT and is authorized to use these funds in accordance with Tribal Transportation Improvement Plan as approved by the Federal Highway Administration.
