Department of Environmental Conservation and Safety (DECS)
The Pawnee Nation Department of Environmental Conservation and Safety (DECS) was established in 1997 by the Pawnee Nation Environmental Regulatory Act (Title 10, Law and Order Code) and has continued to develop specific environmental and conservation management programs. Program initiatives being developed under this reporting period include Water Quality (point source and nonpoint source pollution), Emergency Management, Safe Drinking Water, Fish and Wildlife Management, Solid Waste, Oil and Gas, and other Natural Resource Management programs.
The DECS is currently receiving financial assistance from USEPA and the Pawnee Nation. Other federal and state agencies such as US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, US Geological Service, Oklahoma Water Resources Board, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Oklahoma Conservation Commission provided technical assistance to the DECS staff.
