Pawnee Business Council Quarterly Meeting is Saturday August 2, 2014

The Pawnee Business Council Quarterly Meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Roam Chief Event Center, Pawnee Tribal Reserve. Breakfast will be available for Tribal Members attending the meeting at 8:30 a.m. The meeting agenda is available here.

Pawnee Nation Tribal Members: VISA Gift cards are now available!

The application must be filled out completely; Pawnee Nation CDIB and a school official must sign the form, along with parent/guardian signature. Eligibility requirements are Kindergarten through 12th grade only and Pawnee Nation member residing anywhere in the world. We will be sending out the VISA cards weekly.

If you have received a card the previous semester, make sure the receipt has been turned in to be eligible for the current semester.

Important information about second round of Indian Trust Settlement/Cobell payments!

The second round of Indian Trust Settlement or Cobell payments should begin early this fall. The Department of Interior has reported that it expects to provide the data for the Trust Administration Class distributions to Garden City Group, GCG, in time for payments to begin in early Fall. The deadline for interior to provide the data is August 30, 2014.

Pawnee Nation Tribal Members, we advise you to go to the Indian Trust website at http://www.indiantrust.com and see if you or a member of your family is listed in the “whereabouts unknown” list for the settlement payment. Once you access the above listed website, click on the map on the right side, click on the map of Oklahoma and then scroll down to Pawnee Tribe. You will notice the names are listed by first name first. If you have contact information for anyone on the government’s “whereabouts unknown” list, please contact the Claims Administrator at 866-591-2958 or go back to the main website and use the contact information under the questions heading.
 

Pawnee Nation Code Talker Honor Day is held on July 3, 2014

The Pawnee Nation commemorated and honored the nine World War II Pawnee Nation Code Talkers who played a vital role which changed the course of history in our Great Nation. Our Pawnee Warriors stand among America's distinguished warriors. They utilized their Pawnee Language, an unbreakable, classified, coded and superior battlefield transmission in our Nation's darkest hour and defeated tyranny.  Pawnee Nation Code Talkers bravely defended our Nation and answered the call to duty, they brought honor with their service and victory to our Nation.

The Pawnee Code Talkers, Frank Davis, Brummett Echo hawk, Grant Gover, Phillip Gover, Enoch Jim, Chauncey Matlock, Harold Morgan, Floyd Rice and Henry Stone Road Sr., legacy was honored in Washington, D.C. in November of 2013. The families of the Pawnee Nation Code Talkers received in tribute and ceremony a Silver Medal.  The Pawnee Nation received a gold medal, which is the highest Congressional recognition of the United States for the Code Talkers heroism.

Pawnee Nation President Marshall Gover stated, "My heart goes out to all the Code Talkers, for we cannot say enough about them and how proud we are of them. We are honored by the recognition and proud that they are Pawnee."

A traditional meal was served at the Pawnee Tribal Round House and Lieutenant Colonel Barry Vincent of the 45th Infantry was also present for the Pawnee Code Talker Honoring.
